Happy Summer Solstice to all Northeners and Happy National Aboriginal Day

Here we are! It’s Summer, finally. Hip hip hooray. We had a beautiful spring and hopefully it will continue into the summer months, with warmer weather on the way. My husband, Kevin, and I celebrated the solstice by honouring National Aboriginal Day while at Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons. We had a fortunate opportunity of attending the Red Spirit First Nation Dancers and Drum group. It was awesome to listen to their stories about their heritage. The first dance we saw was a grandfather’s healing song for his sick granddaughter. Beautiful singing, drumming and dancing. Thank you for your inspiring performances!

All of the dancers were energized and passionate about the oncoming solstice. The dancers were mesmerizing to watch with their colourful clothing.

Enjoy the longest day of the year. Don’t forget to light a bonfire tonight to ward off any evil spirits that may come your way. Dance around the fire and have some fun.

You too, can attend and see these awesome dancers at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. http://www.saintemarieamongthehurons.on.ca/sm/en/SpecialEvents/NationalAboriginalDay/index.htm
