Stanley Kubrick once said –  while filming Stephen King’s the Shining  – ‘anything that says there’s something after death is an optimistic story’.  And John Robert Colombo, Canada’s Mr. Mystery has said – when he poles people: ‘Have you seen a ghost’ – the usual answer is no – then when he asks another question – ‘do you know someone who has’ – there is usually a pause followed by a hesitant answer, ‘Well yes.  My brother, sister, … told me he/she saw a ghost’.

We are a Mom-Son supernatural and spiritual fiction series writing team.

Welcome to the world of the Paige Maddison Series.

Lee Bice-Matheson’s debut novella was Wake Me Up Inside (2012, FriesenPress), which was the Literacy Award Winner from the Readers’ Advisory Panel, Orillia Public Library, and was also included in the 2012-2016 Battle of the Books competition in Simcoe County schools. She has also contributed to J.R. Colombo’s The Big Book of Canadian Hauntings. She holds degrees in Honours History and Master of Library and Information Science from Western University, London, Canada. She is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Gamma Epsilon Chapter. She is also a graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature. Lee is an active supporter of asthma and allergies for children at the Mount Sinai Alternative Medical Health Clinic in New York City. Together, with her loving son J.R. Matheson, they coauthored Destiny’s Gate, Book Two (2014, FriesenPress), and the recently released Shine Your Light, Book Three (November 15, 2016, FriesenPress), Paige Maddison Series.

J.R. Matheson has been writing fantasy and horror since he was old enough to hold a pen. Collaborating on the Paige Maddison Series has reignited his passion for creative writing. When he’s not weaving tales with his mom and coauthor, Lee Bice-Matheson, he can be found drowning in scientific publications and talking incessantly about his research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, Ontario, where he is a pharmacology PhD student in the Medical Faculty, The University of Toronto. Some may claim that science and the creative arts are at odds, but J.R. feels they are one and the same. J.R. is also a graduate of McGill University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Biotechnology. J.R. is the inspiration for Lee’s writing and is proud to be her co-author for Destiny’s Gate, and the recently released third novel in the Paige Maddison Series, Shine Your Light. Follow Justin on Twitter @justinrmatheson

“If our book provides an escape for one person, when they need it most, then we are successful authors.  That’s what success is to us,” says Lee and J.R.

One might wonder why Chiropractic is listed on the novelists’ website. Lee is proud to share she is the wife of Dr Kevin Matheson, a Chiropractor and Wellness Doctor.  Not only that, they have worked together at Matheson Chiropractic Clinic for 25 years!  Not too many authors write the career of their spouse into their novels, but Lee and J.R. (Dr Kevin’s son) wanted to include the wellness lifestyle in her / their writing. They have observed Dr Kevin to not only heal patients with hands-on adjustments but also treat patients using a wellness care, whole-body, treatment plan strengthening their physical, mental and spiritual being.  He is also the coauthors’ book manager, roadie, and loving husband / dad. A million thank-yous for all of your support, Kevin!

You are simply the best and most caring Chiropractor that any patient would be so honoured to have as their Doctor of Chiropractic and/or Wellness Doctor. All my love, Lee.
